Remembering Sr. Marie Paul, pddm

Image
On the 15th of June 2014, our sister Sr. Paul went home to God. Today we celebrated with the Eucharist one year since her birth into eternal life. Below is the reflection I was asked to prepare for the occasion.  "I have been asked to share a little of my memories of Sr. Paul. Of course, the next few minutes is not going to do justice to the many gems which I carry as treasures as I remember with love Sr. Paul on this her first anniversary. There is a quote that reads: “Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you.” In true Irish fashion, we would say that Sr. Paul was a character, a character who was truly unique. Over this past year since she returned to God, we have heard so many stories about Sr. Paul. Stories which were also new to us, her sisters. They are stories of all the hidden good which she did, to those who were suffering, to those in need, to those who needed a kind word of enco...

Visit to St. Mary’s Secondary School, Killester

Image
With the 5th Year Prefects of Holy Faith Secondary School On Thursday 5th of February, myself and Sr. Elizabeth, my colleague in the Office for Religious made a visit to St. Mary’s Secondary School in Killester to make a small presentation and to thank the staff and students for their contribution in making the Day of Consecrated Life such a success. The students made 500 St. Brigid’s crosses which were then distributed after the Mass on Sunday. We know from the emails and the messages from the religious around that they were deeply appreciated. Upon our arrival at the school we were treated to a melody of some of the songs which the 2nd year students were practising for Emmanuel 2015. After that another treat awaited with homemade desserts from the girls to accompany our mid-morning coffee. We had some time to talk with the girls and listen to some of the feedback which they have received after their cross-making marathon! It seems that they had great fun making the crosses, ev...

Too blessed to be stressed!

Image
Taking time out to look at all the blessings we have in our lives is never a bad idea! In fact, it is such a good idea that it is written into our Rule of Life that each month we are to take a day of spiritual recollection to reflect over the month that has passed and prepare to live the new one with a grateful heart. I had the gift of living that day of recollection today so I had ample time to pray in Adoration and bask in God's generosity and mercy. On our recollection days we keep silence, during meals and about the house so as to create a climate of prayer, listening and respect for the journey that each sister is making. Sitting in prayer, I looked over the past few weeks and  see how stressed I have been about various situations. Nothing seriously life-changing but little things that piled together became big things. There have been numerous visits to the dentist, administration problems, health insurance policies not updated, crossed wires (sometimes burnt wires!), the...

Live life to the full!

Image
In John 10:10, God promises us the fullness of life! Here are some tips! I plan on working on some of them as I prepare for the new adventure! Hope you find some of them useful too. TIPS FOR HEALTHY AND HOLY LIVING: 1. Pray 2. Go to bed on time. 3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed. 4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health. 5. Delegate tasks to capable others. 6. Simplify and unclutter your life. 7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.) 8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places. 9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together. 10. Take one day at a time. 11. Separate worries from concerns . If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety . If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it. 12. Live within your budget 13. H...
