Upgrading the saints!
Well, one of the new stories dominating the Catholic and religious blogosphere today is that the liturgical celebration of St. Mary Magdalene has been 'upgraded' from memorial to a feastday! This means that it is now the same rank given to the liturgical celebration of the Apostles. The decree, signed by Cardinal Robert Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and dated 3rd of June 2016 and was accompanied by a new Latin Preface for the Mass, and an article by His Excellency Arthur Roche, Secretary of the same Congregation. The article, titled Apostle of the Apostles [Apostolorum apostola ], explains the Pope’s decision and highlights the prominence given to Mary Magdalene for centuries in the Church’s tradition.
